Embrace the joy of layering and make the Christmas table simply wonderful this year!

We are very lucky to have a family member who loves to make every Christmas dinner extra special with her creative table setting skills. So I asked her to share her tips on how to set a table for Christmas and make it extra festive without too much trouble or shopping.

Bakers gonna bake! Especially when it is the season to be baking our Christmas favorites like the classic Stollen, the famous Panettone and fun to make Star bread. And how wonderful to be able to present your bakes amidst a cosy setting next to a glistening tree.

*Happy Holidays to all bakers*

A Touch of Burgundy: 7 Tips for a Festive Christmas Table

The Christmas season is here, and with it comes the joy of setting a table that makes everyone feel welcome and loved. This year, I’ve gone for a theme that’s rich, warm, and festive: burgundy red. It’s the perfect color to bring out the cozy, luxurious vibes of the holidays. Paired with a soft off-white base, this combination brings a timeless elegance to your Christmas celebrations.

Setting a table can be as creative as decorating the tree. With just a few thoughtful touches, you can create a table that feels truly special. So, here are 7 simple tips for setting the perfect Christmas table for your family and friends.

  1. Start with an off-white tablecloth
Your tablecloth is the starting point. An off-white tablecloth creates a clean, neutral canvas that makes burgundy accents pop. It allows the deep red tones to truly shine, creating a balanced look.
  2. Layer in burgundy details
Now for the fun part — layering! Add burgundy runners or placemats to anchor your table setting. Choose napkins that complement your theme. Both burgundy red and off-white napkins work beautifully. With a simple fold, a classic napkin ring, or a ribbon tied with a bit of greenery, you can add a touch of charm.
  3. Choose simple, elegant tableware
Let your tableware complement the theme without overpowering it. White or off-white plates with gold accents pair beautifully with burgundy details. For glasses, clear wine glasses or crystal glasses keep things sophisticated while letting your decorations shine.
  4. Candlelight for a cozy glow
Candles are an absolute must! Burgundy candles in tall holders create height, while smaller white tea lights scattered across the table add a soft, warm glow. The flickering light brings your table to life and sets a magical mood.
  5. Incorporate natural elements
Fresh greenery or beautiful red flowers can add depth and texture to your table. A garland of pine branches or eucalyptus down the center creates a festive feel, while a bouquet of red flowers brings a elegant touch. Add small burgundy ornaments or ribbons to enhance the holiday charm.
  6. Add personal touches
Make your guests feel special with personal touches. Burgundy name cards, handwritten or printed, add a thoughtful touch. Small photos of each guest or a personalized gift at each setting can make them feel even more appreciated.

  7. Add festive music
Start your dinner by setting the mood with some holiday music. A playlist created by all your guests will add a personal touch, making the meal feel even more memorable.

With a few thoughtful tips, your table will feel both timeless and festive, making this Christmas dinner one to remember.

Happy Holidays,
Anna
