Hi Susan,
You cannot go wrong with amaretto, in fact it is the best combination with the cardamom I think.
Enjoy your Holiday baking and sharing!

This cake is quite delicious! It’s easy, not overly sweet, and the spices add just the right subtle hint of flavour. I soaked diced dried apricots and cranberries in Grand Marnier creating this amazing smell that permeated through my home as it baked. I should have paid attention to the comment re. 43 minutes in a bundt pan – and also stayed off the phone!! – so my first try was slightly burnt and dry but still with a lovely spice flavour. The second try was not too bad, I agree that approx 43 minutes is correct. However, I’m still finding it a bit dry for my taste, so wondering about adding additional butter and or sour cream next time? Thank you for posting this recipe!!

Hello Optimist,
We love reading your comment and we love this cake. We made all kinds of versions and its a recipe that allows endless variations (but almost always with the cardamom, because it smells so nice).
So great our recipe brings you joy, hope the next version will be equally delicious.
Wishing you many enjoyable moments baking and sharing!

I have made it today and was a hit. its a keeper ;definitely . the tender buttery spicy melt in the mouth texture is heavenly.

The cake took me around 43 min in the oven at 180 C with a 23 cm bundt pan using full recipe, am not sure whether u have used a smaller pan that may be the reason for the longer bake

I have made a small adjustment where i reduced sugar to 150 g, added a bit of baking powder since i only have all purpose flour on hand, and soaked the dried fruits (mixed raisins in my case) with orange juice. Reduction of sugar was due to the sweetness of both orange and raisins . And end results was just perfectly sweet .

Next time will try it with dried apricots and some orange zest perhaps , I feel it will complements the cake really well.

Thanks Menno! Some years ago I made a big plate full of mini versions of this cake and distributed them when we gathered outside under the neighborhood Christmas tree. Somebody else had made mulled wine and hot cocoa. It was rather perfect.
